New Delhi, 14 May (H.S.):

On the fourth trading day of the week, Thursday, the domestic share market opened in positive territory. After enduring selling pressure over the past few days, both major indices are trading with gains. The Sensex has risen by 140 points, while the Nifty has advanced 81 points.

The BSE Sensex surged 139.91 points, or 0.19 percent, to trend at 74,748.88. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty climbed 88.90 points, or 0.38 percent, to trade at 23,501.50.

Buying interest is prominent today in auto, metal, banking, and pharma shares. This positive opening follows a modest recovery in the previous session, where the market succeeded in halting the downward trend. Additionally, the rupee weakened by 20 paise in early trade, hitting an all-time low of 95.86 per dollar.

Notably, the share market ended higher yesterday, with the Sensex closing up 50 points at 74,609 and the Nifty gaining 33 points to settle at 23,413.
