New Delhi, 13 May (H.S.):

Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal and directives from Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, all ministers, officials and employees of the Delhi government will make every possible effort to conserve fuel, said Delhi’s Minister for Arts, Culture and Languages, Kapil Mishra. Mishra travelled by Delhi Metro on Wednesday and used the journey to discuss various ways of saving energy with fellow commuters and to urge others to follow suit.

During the metro ride, Mishra appealed to Delhi residents who use private vehicles for commuting to offices and workplaces to switch to buses and the metro wherever feasible, and to prefer walking or cycling for short trips to local markets and nearby destinations. He emphasized that, in the face of global crises, conserving fuel and saving energy in accordance with the Prime Minister’s call is a national duty.

Mishra added that Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has already reduced her security convoy to well below half its usual size. Many Delhi ministers are adopting public transport, and government vehicles will be used only when absolutely necessary.
