Imphal, 14 May (HS): Security agencies in Manipur have intensified their crackdown against insurgent groups and illegal activities, leading to multiple arrests during coordinated operations carried out across different districts over the past 24 hours.

In one of the operations, Manipur Police apprehended an alleged illicit liquor trader from Imphal West district and seized a huge quantity of country-made liquor along with a vehicle used for transportation.

According to an official statement issued by the Manipur Police Headquarters on Thursday, the arrest was made on May 13 from Lamsang Bazaar under Lamsang Police Station. The accused, identified as Mutum Inao Singh (30), a resident of Tronglaobi Awang Leikai, was found in possession of nearly 250 litres of country liquor and an Eeco van bearing registration number WB-22U-4023. Police later handed over the accused along with the seized materials to the Kangchup Excise Department for further legal proceedings.

In a separate operation conducted on May 12, Manipur Police arrested an active cadre of the United National Liberation Front from the Lilong Chajing area. The arrested individual, identified as Hidangmayum Benerjit Sharma (24), alias Manja, hails from Yairipok Top Chingtha Mathak Leikai in Imphal East district.

Police stated that he was wanted in connection with a bomb blast case registered at Irilbung Police Station. Security personnel recovered three mobile phones, a wallet containing ₹32,500 in cash, Aadhaar card, an alleged UNLF(P) identity card, a side bag, and a Mahindra Scorpio-N vehicle without a registration number from his possession.

Meanwhile, another major operation was carried out in the Langol area under Lamphel Police Station in Imphal West district, where security forces arrested five members linked to the Kangleipak Communist Party, including its self-styled founding chairman.

The arrested leader was identified as Laishram Ranjit Singh (52), also known by several aliases including Tamanganba, Apik and Loya. He is a resident of Yurembam Awang Leikai in Imphal West district.

The four other arrested rebels were identified as Oinam Somenchandra Singh (42), Arambam Birakumar (52), Maibam Tomba Singh (39), and Chabungbam Lamanganba Meitei (38). During the operation, security personnel seized five mobile phones and three Aadhaar cards from the group.

Police officials said investigations are continuing in all the cases and further legal action is underway.-----------
