Guwahati, 13 May (HS): Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Wednesday announced a 70% reduction in the size of his official convoy as part of a broader initiative aimed at fuel conservation and promotion of sustainable living in the state.
According to an official statement, the Governor said the decision was inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for “economic self-reliance” and responsible nation-building. The move is intended to encourage efficient use of resources and environmentally responsible practices.
The Governor has also initiated measures to reduce electricity consumption at the Assam Raj Bhavan and Lok Bhavan. Earlier, steps had already been taken to cut general fuel consumption by 10% as part of ongoing efforts to conserve resources and improve administrative efficiency.
Lakshman Prasad Acharya said small but meaningful changes in day-to-day functioning can play a significant role in preserving national resources and building a more sustainable future. He expressed hope that the initiative would inspire both institutions and citizens to adopt responsible and eco-friendly habits in the larger interest of the nation.
The initiative has been launched in line with the broader vision of sustainable development and the concept of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’.----------
