Lower Siang (Arunachal Pradesh), 01 May (HS): A renewed crackdown on drug trafficking has been launched by Lower Siang Police in Arunachal Pradesh, with intensified enforcement at the Likabali Check Gate following the recent appointment of a new Superintendent of Police and Deputy Superintendent of Police in the district.

During April 2026, police carried out a series of focused operations that resulted in the registration of four cases under the NDPS Act, reflecting a sharpened approach towards curbing narcotics movement in the region.

Police officials informed on Friday that in one such operation, a suspect identified as Semmar Basar, a resident of Nyigam village in Leparada district, was intercepted at the Likabali Check Gate. Acting on suspicion, police conducted a search in accordance with legal provisions, in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and independent witnesses. The search led to the recovery of suspected heroin and cannabis from his possession.

Subsequently, Likabali Police registered a case (Likabali PS Case No. 14/2026) under Sections 21(a) and 20(b)(ii)(A) of the NDPS Act, and initiated further investigation.

Officials stated that in the past month alone, five individuals have been apprehended in separate anti-drug operations, with total seizures amounting to 12.64 grams of suspected heroin and 106 grams of cannabis.

Alongside narcotics control efforts, police also stepped up Inner Line Permit (ILP) verification drives across the district. As part of this operation, 15 non-FIR cases were registered under Section 3 of the BEFR Act at Likabali and Nari Police Stations.

Lower Siang Police reiterated its resolve to continue stringent action against drug trafficking while ensuring strict enforcement of entry regulations in the district.----------
