New Delhi, April 09 (HS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday called upon Members of Parliament to support measures aimed at strengthening women’s reservation in legislative bodies, describing it as an important step towards strengthening democratic participation.
In an article, the Prime Minister said the proposed move reflects the aspirations of women across the country and emphasised the need to enhance their representation in decision-making institutions.
He said women constitute nearly half of India’s population and their contributions across sectors such as science, technology, entrepreneurship, sports and public service continue to strengthen national development.
The Prime Minister said increasing women’s participation in legislative institutions would help improve governance by bringing diverse experience and perspectives into public policy.
Referring to the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam passed in 2023 providing reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies, he described it as a significant step towards ensuring greater inclusiveness in governance.
He urged Members of Parliament across party lines to support the initiative, stating that strengthening women’s representation would further reinforce constitutional values and democratic traditions.
