Kolkata, 09April (H.S.) : A political controversy has erupted after the Trinamool Congress (TMC) released a purported sting video allegedly showing Amjanata Unnayan Party leader and outgoing Bharatpur MLA Humayun Kabir discussing a “secret understanding” with the BJP. Kabir has strongly denied the allegations, claiming the video was fabricated using artificial intelligence (AI) and warning of legal action if its authenticity is not proven.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, TMC released the 19-minute video, dated December 19 last year. The party alleged that the footage revealed a covert political arrangement between Kabir and BJP leaders and claimed that religious sentiments were used as part of a vote-buying strategy. Names of BJP leaders including Suvendu Adhikari, Himanta Biswa Sarma and Mohan Yadav were also mentioned in connection with the alleged conversation.
Hindusthan Samachar, however, stated that it has not independently verified the authenticity of the video.
Reacting to the allegations, Kabir dismissed the video as manipulated content created using AI technology. He accused TMC leaders of resorting to such tactics because they were unable to challenge him politically.
“This video has been created using AI. Mamata Banerjee, Abhishek Banerjee, Pratik Jain, Kunal Ghosh and Firhad Hakim are behind this conspiracy because they cannot fight me politically,” Kabir claimed.
He further challenged TMC to provide proof of the alleged financial deal mentioned in the video.
“Forget ₹1000 crore, if they can prove even a ₹1 crore deal involving me, I will withdraw from all elections and accept whatever punishment the people of the state decide,” he said.
Kabir also warned that he would move the Calcutta High Court if TMC fails to establish the authenticity of the video. He alleged that the clip was circulated to defame him politically.
“If they fail to prove the claims, I will file a case in the High Court against Mamata Banerjee, Abhishek Banerjee, Kunal Ghosh and Firhad Hakim for spreading defamatory AI-generated content,” he said.
The Bharatpur MLA also claimed he was receiving strong support from minority voters, which he said had made TMC nervous.
“Wherever I go, I am receiving support from minority communities, both men and women. TMC is scared because of this. Mamata Banerjee became Chief Minister three times with minority votes, but this time she will not get that support,” Kabir alleged.
The TMC has not yet responded to Kabir’s AI fabrication claims. The authenticity of the video and the allegations surrounding it remain unverified.
