Tirunelveli, 08 April (H.S):Actor-turned-politician Vijay intensified his campaign for the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections with a major public meeting in Tirunelveli on Tuesday, even as nomination-related controversies involving his party candidates continued to surface across the state.
The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief is scheduled to address a large gathering at KTC Nagar in support of party candidates contesting in Tirunelveli and Tenkasi districts. Police have granted permission for the event, subject to 51 conditions focusing on crowd control, security, and public order. Party coordinator Sengottaiyan said the guidelines would be strictly adhered to, while questioning why such stringent conditions were imposed specifically on TVK programmes.
Following the public meeting, Vijay will undertake a roadshow through Thalayuthu, Thachanallur, Washermanpet, Samadhanapuram, and the court complex area before returning to KTC Nagar. The party is also awaiting approvals to extend the campaign to Pudukkottai, Tenkasi, Mayiladuthurai, and Ranipet.
The campaign push comes amid a series of nomination-related developments involving Vijay and his party nominees. While his nomination from Tiruchy East was accepted without issues, his Perambur nomination briefly faced scrutiny after objections from a PMK candidate over alleged non-payment of property tax. The Returning Officer later cleared the nomination after clarifications were submitted.
In Villivakkam, the nomination of TVK executive Adhav Arjuna was temporarily withheld over incomplete disclosures but was subsequently accepted after additional details were provided.
However, controversy intensified in Edappadi, where the nomination of TVK candidate Arun Kumar was rejected, and he later went missing, triggering political reactions. The nomination of his substitute candidate was also rejected.
In contrast, nominations in Chidambaram were accepted without objections, highlighting the uneven nature of scrutiny across constituencies.
