Guwahati, 08 April (HS): Units of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in North Assam and South Assam have lodged formal police complaints against Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge at Dispur Police Station in Guwahati and Silchar Police Station, seeking legal action over his alleged objectionable remarks made during a recent election rally in southern Assam.

According to a statement signed by Prant Karyavah Khagen Saikia and Prant Sanghchalak Jyotsnamay Chakraborty, the complaints pertain to a speech delivered by Kharge at a campaign rally held in Nilambazar under the Karimganj South Assembly constituency in Sribhumi district. The RSS has alleged that Kharge made provocative and communally sensitive remarks, comparing the ideology of the RSS and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to a “poisonous snake” and calling for its elimination.

The complaint cites Kharge as allegedly stating that just as one would stop offering namaz to deal with a poisonous snake, similarly, RSS and BJP must be “eliminated” to survive. The RSS has expressed serious concern over such statements, claiming that they could incite hostility, fear and potential violence against its members and supporters during the election campaign.

In the FIRs, the RSS units have argued that the remarks may amount to corrupt electoral practices under provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. They further alleged that such statements attempt to create fear among the public and promote enmity between different political and social groups.

The complaints also state that describing RSS and BJP ideology as “poisonous” and advocating its removal could be interpreted as incitement to physical harm against their members and supporters. Additionally, the RSS has warned that such rhetoric may aggravate communal divisions between religious communities, potentially disturbing public peace and harmony in Assam.

Emphasising the need for restraint, the RSS stated that democratic discourse must remain within constitutional and legal boundaries and that election campaigns should avoid language that threatens social harmony and public order.------------
