Silchar, 07 April (HS): Just two days ahead of the elections, police intensified their anti-liquor drive in Assam’s Cachar district, leading to the seizure of a large quantity of illegal liquor on Monday night.
Acting on inputs, Gumrah Police conducted an operation at Digar Khal near the Meghalaya border and intercepted two cement-loaded trucks coming from Meghalaya and heading towards Mizoram. Upon thorough checking, police recovered 401 cartons of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) concealed beneath cement bags.
The seizure was made at the Digar Khal check gate, where the items discovered that the liquor cartons were cleverly hidden under the cement load to evade detection. In total, approximately 1,804 litres of liquor of various brands were confiscated. The market value of the seized consignment is estimated to be several lakhs of rupees.
Meanwhile, police arrested four individuals in connection with the illegal transportation of liquor. The accused have been identified as Aslam Uddin Barbhuiya and Faruk Islam from Kalain Bhairabpur, Junaid Ahmed from Brahmangram, and Dildar Hussain from Natanpur, informed Gumrah Police Outpost in-charge Pranab Milli.
Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.-----------
