New Delhi, 07 April (H.S.):
Tis Hazari Court has sent Sarbjeet Singh, accused in the Delhi Assembly security breach, to eight days of police custody. Delhi Police had sought ten days.
Presenting Sarbjeet before the court, police argued for custody to interrogate him on the conspiracy's mastermind and potential accomplices. They revealed ongoing searches for his missing mobile phone and noted his unstable mental condition.
Sarbjeet's counsel opposed custody, citing ongoing mental health treatment. He claimed Sarbjeet had spontaneously travelled from Pilibhit to Chandigarh 14-15 days ago to meet his sister and visited a gurdwara, returning after learning his nephew was missing. The lawyer asserted Sarbjeet mistook the Assembly for a gurdwara and entered inadvertently.
The court observed Sarbjeet had driven himself from Pilibhit to Chandigarh and back to Delhi.
Delhi Police arrested Sarbjeet on April 6 after he breached VIP Gate No. 2 barriers wearing a mask, proceeded directly to Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta's office, placed a bouquet in the porch, and fled. Two additional accomplices were later apprehended.
