Hooghly, 06 April (H.S.): A massive show of strength marked the nomination filing of Indranil Sen, the Trinamool Congress candidate from Chandannagar Assembly constituency, on Monday. A nearly six-kilometre-long rally, attended by thousands, turned the event into a major political spectacle in the region.
The rally was organised around noon keeping public convenience in mind. Despite intense heat and humidity, a large number of supporters participated. It began from Mankundu Circus Ground and saw participation from all 33 wards of the Chandannagar Municipal Corporation. Blue-and-white balloons, party flags, slogans, tableaux, and banners highlighting various government schemes added to the scale of the procession.
Local residents believe that the overwhelming turnout reflects a strong electoral advantage for the ruling party in Chandannagar.
The rally moved in an orderly manner via Jyoti More towards the Sub-Divisional Officer’s office. Chandannagar Mayor Ram Chakraborty, Deputy Mayor Munna Agarwal, and other councillors were present.
Simultaneously, another rally began from Bhadreshwar, involving participants from 22 wards. Chairman Pralay Chakraborty and CIC Prakash Goswami, along with several councillors, took part. The two processions converged at Jyoti More, where Indranil Sen joined and proceeded on foot with party workers to file his nomination.
Addressing the gathering, Sen claimed there was no effective opposition in his constituency, noting the absence of campaign posters or wall writings from rival parties. He said the massive turnout, despite extreme weather conditions, clearly indicated the likely election outcome.
He further asserted that the victory margin in Chandannagar would exceed 50,000 votes and expressed confidence that under the leadership of Mamata Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress would form the government in West Bengal for a fourth consecutive term.
