Odisha Cabinet Approves SEBC Quota in Technical and Medical Education

Bhubaneswar, 05 April (H.S.): The Odisha Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, approved the introduction of a reservation system for students from Socially and Educationally Backward Classes (SEBC) in technical and medical education on Saturday evening.

Under this decision, SEBC students will receive an 11.25% reservation for admissions to technical and medical courses. Furthermore, the Cabinet has decided to increase the reservation for Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Scheduled Caste (SC) students. The ST quota will rise from 12% to 22.5%, while the SC quota will increase from 8% to 16.25%.

This revised reservation policy will be applied across all state universities, affiliated colleges, and institutions that offer courses in engineering, technology, management, computer applications, medicine, surgery, dental sciences, nursing, pharmacy, veterinary science, Ayurveda, homeopathy, and agriculture.

According to official data, of the 2,421 undergraduate and postgraduate medical seats in Odisha, 545 will be reserved for ST students, 393 for SC students, and 272 for SEBC students. In engineering, out of a total of 44,579 seats, 10,030 will be allocated to ST students, 7,244 to SC students, and 5,015 to SEBC students.
