Sonitpur (Assam), 03 April (HS): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday alleged that the Congress had historically encouraged infiltration and riots, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is committed to identifying and expelling such elements. Addressing his second election rally in Assam, he appealed to voters in the Barchala विधानसभा constituency to support BJP candidate Ritu Baran Sarma by pressing the lotus symbol on April 9.
The Chief Minister stated that earlier, infiltrators had encroached upon the rights of local youth and deprived genuine beneficiaries of essential resources like ration. He asserted that under the “double-engine government,” every citizen of Assam is now guaranteed their rightful benefits. He accused Congress, in alliance with AIUDF, of creating an identity crisis for the Assamese people through policies of appeasement and alleged that such strategies had threatened the state's cultural and social fabric.
Referring to Assam’s rich cultural heritage, he said the BJP government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and successive leadership of Sarbananda Sonowal and Himanta Biswa Sarma, has transformed the state into a hub of development, including emerging sectors like semiconductor production. He highlighted welfare schemes such as Ujjwala Yojana, Ayushman Bharat, housing initiatives, and employment opportunities, particularly benefiting tea garden workers, artisans, and youth.
Adityanath further claimed that earlier, the poor were deprived of ration due to infiltrators, but now benefits are directly reaching the people. He emphasized that the BJP government is promoting Assamese culture, honoring historical figures, and investing in projects like the Kamakhya corridor and land preservation.
Drawing comparisons with Uttar Pradesh, he said the state has witnessed “no curfew, no riots” in the past nine years. He also mentioned the construction of the grand Ram Temple in Ayodhya as a historic achievement. He reiterated the BJP’s commitment to eliminating “love jihad” and “land jihad,” while accusing Congress and its allies of prioritizing vote-bank politics over national security.
Highlighting the Centre’s focus on the Northeast, he said Prime Minister Modi has made multiple visits to the region, ensuring improved connectivity through road, rail, air, and waterways. He added that premier institutions like AIIMS, IITs, IIMs, and NITs have strengthened the region’s educational and healthcare infrastructure.
Calling Assam a land of national pride, Adityanath invoked figures like Lachit Borphukan and the Ahom dynasty, along with the Brahmaputra River and Maa Kamakhya. The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation, with supporters raising slogans and many climbing trees to catch a glimpse of the leader. The Chief Minister also donned the traditional ‘Jaapi’ and played the Assamese dhol during the event.---------------
