New Delhi, 29 April (H.S.): Shammi Silva, President of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), has resigned from his position with immediate effect, along with the entire SLC Executive Committee, as announced in an official statement released by the board today. The resignations have been formally communicated to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and Sports Minister Sunil Kumara Gamage, though no official reason was provided.
According to ESPNcricinfo, Silva assumed the presidency in February 2019, succeeding Thilanga Sumathipala amid corruption allegations. Initially viewed as Sumathipala's ally, Silva consolidated power over seven years, securing four terms including three unopposed elections. His tenure saw both men's and women's teams win Asia Cups but was marred by consistent underperformance, including a ninth-place finish at the 2023 ODI World Cup and disappointing results in the 2024 and 2026 T20 World Cups (the latter co-hosted by Sri Lanka), alongside a sharp decline in the men's team's rankings.
