New Delhi, 29 April (H.S.): Rajasthan Royals head coach Kumar Sangakkara has lavished praise on 31-year-old batsman Shubham Dubey for his match-defining contribution as an impact substitute in their thrilling victory over table-toppers Punjab Kings in IPL 2026.
Dubey played a pivotal role in the chase of Punjab's imposing 222, remaining unbeaten on 31 off just 12 balls (3 fours, 2 sixes) after entering at a tense 151/4 in the 14th over. Partnering Donovan Ferreira (52*), he forged a crucial 77-run stand off 32 balls, steering RR home with 4 balls to spare.
In the post-match press conference, Sangakkara highlighted Dubey's mental fortitude: Coming in as an impact player is one of the hardest tasks—you never know if you'll play. Yet he maintained exceptional focus under pressure and turned the game in our favor. He also commended Ferreira's brilliance while emphasizing the team's depth: Vaibhav, Dhruv, Yash, Riyan, Ferreira, Dubey, Jadeja, and Shanaka—all top cricketers. Vaibhav gets attention, but this is collective excellence.
