
Thiruvananthapuram, 28 April (H.S.):A young welder undergoing treatment for severe sunstroke succumbed to his condition in Thiruvananthapuram, highlighting the growing risks posed by extreme summer heat in Kerala.
The deceased has been identified as Shine, a native of Venkulam in Edava. He had reportedly collapsed while at work on April 18 after being exposed to intense heat for a prolonged period. Colleagues rushed him to the Government Medical College Hospital in Parippally immediately after the incident.
As his condition deteriorated, doctors referred him to the Government Medical College Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram for advanced treatment. Despite receiving expert medical care, Shine’s health continued to worsen over the following days. He eventually passed away while undergoing treatment, hospital sources confirmed.
Health experts have reiterated the dangers of prolonged exposure to high temperatures, particularly for those engaged in outdoor and physically demanding jobs such as welding, construction, and manual labour. With temperatures rising across Kerala in recent weeks, authorities have been urging the public to take necessary precautions, including staying hydrated, avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours, and using protective gear.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the vulnerability of workers exposed to extreme weather conditions. Public health officials have called for increased awareness and preventive measures at workplaces, especially during the peak summer months, to avoid such tragic outcomes.
