Netherlands-Finland visit brings 1300 crore investment, agri-tech
collaboration and new opportunities for youth
Chandigarh, 28 April (H.S.): Punjab is set to witness major economic and developmental gains after announced
that the state has secured strong global partnerships during his recent
Netherlands and Finland visit. These collaborations are expected to directly
benefit farmers, youth and industries, while strengthening Punjab’s position on
the global investment map.
The Chief Minister highlighted that an
investment worth 1300 crore, along with interest from multiple global
companies, will significantly boost Punjab’s economy. He said these partnerships
will promote crop diversification, encourage high-value farming and enhance
export potential, especially in sectors like horticulture and floriculture.
One of the major benefits for farmers will be
the adoption of advanced agricultural techniques. Punjab is likely to replicate
modern systems such as vertical farming and controlled environment agriculture,
which can dramatically increase productivity. For example, indoor cultivation
models in the Netherlands can produce up to 100 kg of tomatoes per square
metre, compared to much lower yields in traditional farming.
The visit has also opened doors for industrial
growth and job creation. Global firms have shown keen interest in investing in
sectors like semiconductors, electronics, research and development. A proposal
to set up an R&D and Innovation Hub in Mohali is expected to create
employment opportunities and promote start-ups in the region.
Additionally, partnerships in education and
skill development will benefit Punjab’s youth. Collaboration with Finland’s
advanced education system will improve teacher training, learning models and
professional development. This will help build a skilled workforce ready for
global opportunities.
The state is also expected to benefit from
increased integration into global supply chains. Companies like LT Foods have
expressed interest in investing in Punjab, which will enhance export capacity
and strengthen the agricultural economy.
The
Chief Minister emphasized that these initiatives will not only boost farmers’
income but also create new avenues for entrepreneurship and innovation. With
improved infrastructure, foreign investment and modern technology, Punjab is
moving towards becoming a global hub for agriculture, industry and research.
On the occasion, Cabinet Ministers Harjot Singh Bains and Sanjeev Arora, Chief Secretary KAP Sinha and others were also present.
