Gangtok, 27 April (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim, on Monday afternoon on a two‑day visit to the Himalayan state. He landed at the Libing Army Helipad near the city, where he was given a warm and enthusiastic welcome by Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, State BJP President DR Thapa, and other dignitaries.

From the helipad, the Prime Minister is proceeding towards Lok Bhawan via a road show. Large crowds have lined the streets, many in traditional attire, playing folk music and raising slogans to greet him. Modi has been waving back at the crowd, acknowledging their affectionate reception after a long morning of eager anticipation.

PM Modi’s visit marks a key moment in Sikkim’s celebration of 50 years of statehood. On Tuesday, April 28, he will participate in the closing ceremony of the golden‑jubilee events, address a public gathering at Paljor Stadium, and inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for multiple development projects worth over ₹4,000 crore in sectors ranging from infrastructure and healthcare to tourism and agriculture.
