Bhubaneswar, 27 April (H.S.): The political atmosphere has intensified over the women’s reservation issue, with the Bharatiya Janata Party announcing a series of protest programmes across Odisha. Member of Parliament Anita Subhadarshini Patnaik stated that “Jan Akrosh Mahila Padyatra” will be held in all mandals across the state from today to April 29.
She noted that a large-scale padyatra had already been organised in Bhubaneswar on April 22, followed by district-level women’s conferences and padyatras on April 24 and 25, which received significant public support.
Patnaik said that the “Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam,” introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is a landmark initiative aimed at ensuring 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies. She alleged that the stance of opposition parties has exposed their anti-women approach.
She further informed that a massive women’s torch rally will be held in Bhubaneswar on April 28, with participation expected from women across various sections of society. She also urged women to actively take part in the movement.
Reaffirming the party’s commitment, Patnaik said the BJP will continue its fight to secure constitutional rights for women.
Minister Nityananda Gond and State Mahila Morcha President Aishwarya Biswal, among other leaders, were present on the occasion.
