Jammu, 27 April (H.S.): BJP spokesperson and convenor, International Affairs, Gaurav Gupta here today called on Lieutenant Governor (LG), Manoj Sinha and submitted a memorandum highlighting the growing parking crisis in Jammu city.

He proposed utilisation space under the flyovers for structured parking facilities.

Gupta drew attention of the LG towards increasing traffic congestion in Jammu caused by unplanned roadside parking and the shortage of organised parking infrastructure in major markets and commercial hubs.

He informed the Lieutenant Governor that Jammu city already has important flyover infrastructures at key locations like Kunjwani, Akhnoor Road and Jewel where large spaces beneath the flyovers remain unused and can be developed into organised parking zones.

Gupta said that haphazardly parked vehicles on roadsides have become a major cause of traffic jams and inconvenience to the general public.

He said that absence of designated parking spaces has led to chaotic conditions across the city particularly during peak hours.

In his memorandum, Gupta proposed a detailed survey of available spaces beneath major flyovers in Jammu, development of properly demarcated parking bays, installation of lighting and CCTV surveillance, introduction of smart parking systems and exploring Public-Private Partnership models for efficient implementation and maintenance in this regard.

The LG gave a patient hearing to the concerns raised and assured that the matter would be examined appropriately in the larger interest of the people of Jammu.

Meanwhile, Sandeep Sharma, Zonal Head for J&K and Ladakh at ICICI Bank also called on LG Manoj Sinha.
