April 25 (HS): A 42-year-old jeweler was shot dead in Baberu town by a neighbour,
who was apprehended by police within hours of the incident, an officer said on
Saturday.
Tej Pratap Soni, also known as Pappu, a resident of Dul Thok, was shot at 8.45
p.m. on Friday, according to Police Superintendent Palash Bansal. He was
brought to a hospital, where physicians proclaimed him deceased. The suspected
gunman, 55-year-old Aslam, was apprehended within two hours after the event
after police shot him in both legs, according to the officer. He is presently receiving treatment at a
hospital, he added. According to the officer, Soni and Aslam knew each other,
and the attack may have occurred when they were under the influence of alcohol.
Meanwhile,
local traders and family members of the dead staged a protest at the town's
main junction, claiming that the body was transferred for a post-mortem without
any information.
The
demonstration, which lasted around 90 minutes, was called off after police told
them of the shooter's capture.
