Lucknow,

April 25 (HS): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath paid homage to former

Chief Minister Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna on his birth anniversary on Saturday,

saying that Bahuguna's vision for development is now being realized on the

ground. Adityanath

presented flowers to Bahuguna's monument in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister

Brajesh Pathak and numerous other dignitaries.

In

a post on X, Adityanath stated, On the birth anniversary of former Uttar

Pradesh Chief Minister and Union Minister Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, a

significant pillar of Indian politics, I paid floral tributes to his statue in

Lucknow today. He stated that his excellent contributions as Chief

Minister of Uttar Pradesh and in several ministries of the national government

continue to lead us to this day.

Adityanath

added: His vision of progress is now becoming a reality on the ground. I honor

the holy memory of Bahuguna. Born on April 25, 1919, in Pauri Garhwal (now in

Uttarakhand), Bahuguna was sworn in as Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in a

Congress-led administration in November 1973 and served until November 1975. Bahuguna's

son Vijay Bahuguna, a key player in the liberation fight, has served as the

Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, while his daughter Rita Bahuguna Joshi has long

been involved in Uttar Pradesh politics and has also served as Allahabad MP

& minister in the BJP administration.

His

younger son Shekhar, a senior Congress leader said, “Bahuguna was the leader of

the masses and symbol of secularism who enjoyed the support of people from all

sections of society. He always worked for the upliftment of poor and deprived

classes. Describing him as the 'VikasPurush', he said that his interaction with

party workers was on a personal basis given his sharp memory and ability to

recollect. One of his family astrologers had predicted long ago that if he

crossed 70 years of age then he will become the prime minister of

India. Unfortunately, he died one month before he completed 70.”
