Murshidabad, 23 April (H.S.): Amid the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026, reports of disruption and irregularities have emerged from parts of Murshidabad district, particularly Bharatpur and Baharampur.

As per information, unrest and disturbances were reported at several polling booths in Bharatpur. Meanwhile, in Baharampur, voting was affected at multiple booths due to malfunctioning EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines), causing delays and inconvenience for voters. Long queues were seen, and some voters reportedly had to return without casting their votes.

Leaders of the Indian National Congress have raised serious concerns over the situation, alleging that the electoral process was not conducted fairly. The party has lodged a formal complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and demanded a re-poll in the affected booths.

Congress leaders argued that free and fair voting was not possible in areas where EVM glitches and disruptions occurred, making a re-election necessary.

The Election Commission has taken note of the complaints and has sought a detailed report from the administration. An inquiry into the incidents is currently underway.

These developments come amid an already sensitive electoral atmosphere in the state, with earlier reports of sporadic clashes and technical issues during polling.
