April 23 (HS): The Central Library of Sam Higginbottom University of

Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHUATS) organized a Book

Exhibition-cum-Sale on the occasion of World Book and Copyright Day, held on April

23 and 24, 2026. The exhibition was formally inaugurated by Prof. (Dr.)

BiswaswroopMehra, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration), at the Central Library.

On this occasion, Prof. (Dr.) Ritu Prakash Dubey, Pro-Vice Chancellor (PMD) and

Chairperson, Library Advisory Committee; Prof. (Dr.) NeeruBala, Department of

Food, Nutrition and Public Health; and Prof. (Dr.) Dipak Kumar Bose, Department

of Agricultural Extension & Communication, graced the event with their

esteemed presence.

Prof.

(Dr.) BiswaswroopMehra highlighted the importance of books and reading in

personal and academic development. Setting an inspiring example, he also

purchased books from the exhibition to motivate the audience to cultivate

reading habits. He emphasized that books are the foundation of knowledge and

play a crucial role in shaping one’s thinking, creativity, and character.

Prof.

(Dr.) RituPrakashDubey, Pro-Vice Chancellor (PMD) and Chairperson, Library

Advisory Committee, appreciated the efforts of the Central Library in

organizing such a meaningful event. She encouraged students to engage with

books beyond their curriculum, emphasizing that reading not only enriches

knowledge but also fosters critical thinking and innovation. She further

expressed her commitment to strengthening library services and promoting a

vibrant learning environment within the university. Christofhar Sudhir George,

Librarian, Chhandita Sen, Deputy Librarian, along with Central Library staff,

staff members from various departments, and a large number of students, were

present at the inauguration ceremony.

According

to Librarian Christofhar Sudhir George, World Book and Copyright Day, observed

annually under the initiative of UNESCO, aims to promote reading, publishing,

and the protection of intellectual property through copyright. He further

emphasized that the Central Library regularly organizes such events to foster a

reading culture and enhance academic engagement among students. The exhibition

showcases a wide range of books, including academic, competitive, motivational,

and general reading materials, and has received an enthusiastic response from

students and faculty members alike.
