Madrid, 21 April (H.S.):
Brazilian football legend Cafu believes the 2026 FIFA World Cup presents the perfect opportunity for the Seleção to reclaim the crown, 24 years after their last triumph under his captaincy.
The two-time champion, who lifted the trophy in 2002 against Germany and featured in 1994's penalty shootout win over Italy, praised the current team's blend of balance and experience. At the Laureus Awards, Cafu told reporters: After 24 years since our last title, this is the right moment for Brazil.
He lauded coach Carlo Ancelotti as a serial winner strengthening attack and midfield, with renewed focus on defense. Cafu backed star Vinícius Júnior to shine on the grandest stage and tipped 19-year-old Endrick—thriving at Lyon—to emerge as pivotal.
Hosted across the US, Mexico, and Canada, the tournament positions Brazil as frontrunners, though Spain looms as a formidable rival.
