Akshaya Tritiya Celebrated

Bhubaneswar, 20 April (H.S.): The agrarian festival of Akshaya Tritiya is being observed across Odisha today, marking the ceremonial beginning of the agricultural season.

Farmers in various parts of the state performed the traditional ritual known as Akhi Muthi Anukula, symbolically sowing seeds in their fields after ploughing the land. The practice signifies the commencement of farming activities for the year. Dressed in new attire, farmers carried baskets filled with seeds, offering prayers to Goddess Lakshmi, seeking prosperity and a bountiful harvest.

The occasion also coincides with the onset of Chandan Jatra, during which ceremonial processions of deities are organised at several temples across the state. In Puri, preparations for the annual Ratha Jatra begin on this day, with the construction of chariots for Lord Jagannath and his siblings.

Considered highly auspicious, Akshaya Tritiya is traditionally chosen for initiating significant life events such as marriages, property purchases, and business ventures. It is widely believed that activities undertaken on this day bring enduring success and prosperity.

The day also holds deep religious significance. It is believed to mark the birth anniversary of Lord Parasurama. Additionally, Hindu tradition associates the day with the beginning of the composition of the Mahabharata by Ved Vyasa and Lord Ganesha.
