Imphal, 18 April (HS): Two persons, including a former Army personnel, were shot dead by unidentified gunmen along National Highway-202 in Manipur’s Ukhrul district, officials said on Saturday. The incident has triggered tension in the area.

According to police sources, the attack took place in a sensitive stretch of the highway when the victims were travelling in a vehicle. Armed assailants, who were reportedly lying in wait, opened fire on them, killing both on the spot.

Security forces rushed to the scene soon after the incident and launched a search operation to track down the attackers. Authorities said efforts are underway to identify those involved and bring them to justice.

Following the incident, security has been intensified in and around the area. Police have urged residents to remain calm and assured that a thorough investigation is being carried out.---------------
