Guwahati, 18 April (HS): In a bizarre case of theft, two male burglars were caught allegedly disguising themselves in traditional Assamese women attire, mekhela chador, to carry out theft incidents during nighttime.
According to reports, the accused have been identified as Gagan Barman and Janmoni Sharma. Police said the duo used to wear women’s clothing to avoid suspicion while committing thefts in different areas after dark.
Investigations revealed that Janmoni Sharma’s wife, Dhanada Devi, also accompanied them during the theft operations. CCTV footage captured visuals of the accused moving in women’s attire, which later helped authorities in identifying and tracking them down.
Police have seized two vehicles used in the crimes along with stolen gold and silver jewellery. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the extent of their involvement in other similar cases, officials added.-----------
