Tinsukia (Assam), 18 April (HS): A tragic incident of poaching has come to light from Lakhipathar area in Digboi, where an elephant was severely injured after poachers cut off one of its tusks.

According to reports, the miscreants took advantage of heavy rainfall during the night to carry out the act, managing to sever one tusk of the elephant before fleeing the scene. The incident has raised serious concerns over wildlife safety in the region.

Forest department officials reached the spot soon after the incident was reported and initiated necessary measures. The injured elephant is currently undergoing treatment under the supervision of the forest department.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the matter and efforts are underway to trace those involved in the poaching incident.-----------
