Agartala, 17 April (HS): In a historic outcome in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, Tipra Motha Party secured a landslide victory by winning 24 out of 28 seats, as per the final results declared on Friday.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) managed to win only four seats, while CPI(M), Congress and other political parties failed to make any significant impact in the elections.
Following the resounding victory, Tipra Motha founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma congratulated party workers and winning candidates. He said that the victory reflects the trust and expectations of the people and emphasized the need to uphold responsibility, honesty and integrity.
He also issued a strong appeal against any form of post-poll violence, stating that unrest would harm the interests of the Tiprasa and indigenous communities. He added that victory and defeat are natural in a democracy and should not create divisions among people.
Calling for unity beyond political differences, he urged all to maintain peace and harmony, stating that the true meaning of victory lies in love, unity and collective development, with a focus on building a better future for the coming generations.
It may be noted that the elections, held on April 12, saw 173 candidates contesting across 28 seats. Around 83% voter turnout was recorded, reflecting strong public participation. Counting began at 8 am on Friday across 17 centres under tight security, with VVPAT slips verified before final counting through EVMs.-----------
