Chandigarh, 17 April (H.S.): In a significant step towards improving transparency and accountability in policing, Special Director General of Police (Special DGP) Traffic and Road Safety-cum-Public Grievances AS Rai chaired a virtual review meeting with all Nodal Officers under the Public Grievance Division (PGD) on Friday.
The meeting focused on reviewing the status and disposal of complaints received through the dedicated PGD portal (pgd.punjabpolice.gov.in), which allows citizens to submit grievances related to the Punjab Police. The initiative aligns with the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to ensure a transparent and efficient grievance redressal mechanism.
The development comes following instructions from DGP Punjab Gaurav Yadav, who directed Special DGP AS Rai to assess pending complaints and ensure their timely resolution. As part of this effort, physical visits to field units will also be conducted, where members of the public will be invited to resolve their grievances on the spot.
During the meeting, AS Rai issued strict directions to all nodal officers to ensure that complaints are processed exclusively through the PGD portal. He emphasized the need for personal monitoring of complaint disposal and called for improved quality in enquiry reports. Officers were instructed to address all allegations in a fair, reasoned, and transparent manner.
Highlighting the importance of timely justice, the Special DGP stated that all complaints must be resolved within the stipulated timeframe, and accountability would be fixed in cases of unnecessary delays. He also announced the establishment of dedicated complaint handling desks at police station levels to streamline the process of grievance registration and resolution.
Stressing the importance of people-centric policing, AS Rai directed officers to interact with citizens in a courteous and respectful manner. He urged them to listen patiently to complaints and make sincere efforts to provide prompt and effective solutions.
The initiative is expected to enhance public trust in the police system while ensuring that grievances are addressed efficiently and transparently across Punjab.
