Lucknow, April 17 (HS): BSP head
Mayawati accused the Congress and Samajwadi Party of shifting colors like
chameleons, claiming that they never took any attempt for quota of SC, ST, and
OBC women throughout their time but are now talking about it. Her comments came amid a discussion in Parliament
about women's quotas. In a post on X, former Uttar Pradesh CM stated, In
terms of constitutional/legal rights for the country's SC, ST, and OBC
communities, the Congress is changing its color like a chameleon.” “The same
party is currently discussing these categories of women's reservation, although
it never took any action during its central administration (tenure) to fulfill
its reservation quotas in any industry, she claims.
Nor did it follow the Mandal Commission report's 27% quota for the OBC
population in government posts and education, which was subsequently enacted by
former Prime Minister VP Singh's government, Mayawati remarked. Mayawati,
training her sights on the Samajwadi Party, said that in Uttar Pradesh, the
then-SP administration had shelved the Backward Classes Commission report,
which had arrived in July 1994 and was promptly adopted by the first BSP
government on June 3, 1995. She said that the same SP is now changing its hue
for political reasons and discussing separate reservation for their ladies.
Thus, like in previous examples, the SP takes a different posture when it is
not in power, but when it is, it takes a different limited casteist and
discriminating stance. As a result, everyone must be wary of such deceitful and
double-faced parties; only then would anything better be feasible, she stated. On
women's reservation delimitation based on the 2011 Census, Mayawati stated that
if it must be implemented rapidly for any reason, it must be done using the
same census. If the Congress Party were still in control at the national level,
it would have taken the same approach as the BJP. Overall, she stated, no party
is concerned about the true interests, welfare, or defining the future of the
SC, ST, OBC, and Muslim populations.
As a result, in terms of women's reservation, whatever these groups receive
today, they should accept it for the time being, and when a better moment
comes, their interests will be properly addressed. They should not succumb to
anyone's enticements because they must stand on their own two feet and build a
self-sufficient and robust society, according to the BSP head. Prime Minister
Narendra Modi strongly supported the implementation of women's reservation in
legislatures in 2029 and stated on Thursday that no state will be discriminated
against in constituency delimitation, despite the opposition's claims that if
the Constitution amendment bill is passed, India's democracy will be over.
