Hingalganj, 17 April (H.S.): Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Friday targeted the BJP during a public meeting in Hingalganj and cornered BJP candidate Rekha Patra over the Sandeshkhali issue.
Addressing a rally near Nebukhali bus stand in support of party candidate Anand Sarkar, Banerjee alleged that regions like Sandeshkhali, Hingalganj, and Hasnabad were defamed before the entire country. He claimed that Rekha Patra had played a key role in the developments surrounding the issue.
Banerjee further alleged that in Sandeshkhali, women were made to sign blank papers which were later used to file false allegations. “Those who defamed these regions before the entire country had Rekha Patra as their leader. This time, voters must give her a befitting reply,” he said.
He urged voters to treat the election as one of resistance and protest, and called for ensuring a stronger victory for the Trinamool Congress in every panchayat.
Targeting the BJP’s central leadership, Banerjee said, “If you have the courage, stay in Kolkata after 12 noon on the 4th. You started the game, and the Trinamool will finish it. I want to see your faces on the 4th.”
He also indicated that all alleged incidents and actions would be accounted for after the elections.
