Bijnor, April 16 (HS): Two persons
were detained in Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh, on Thursday for alleged anti-national
actions related to separate occurrences, police said. According to Circle
Officer Anjani Kumar Chaturvedi, Sameer was detained in Najibabad for allegedly
maintaining touch with persons in Saudi Arabia and South Africa who were
seeking to recruit young people in India for terrorist operations. According to
investigators, Sameer spoke with Aqib in Saudi Arabia and Majul in South Africa
via Instagram. They reportedly attempted to entice young people into forming a
terror network in India, engaging in anti-national acts, and destroying railway
tracks. During questioning, Sameer confirmed that Aqib had encouraged him to
engage in similar actions, according to authorities. Two other defendants,
Uvaid and Jalal, were detained previously in the case.
Police have also issued lookout notices for Aqib and Majul. In a separate
instance, police detained Rajuram Godara of Jaisalmer in connection with a
March 4 incident in Kiratpur, in which a parked automobile was set on fire after
being identified by a religious sign. Previously, three defendants -- Abuzar,
Zaid, and Mannan -- had been detained in the case. According to investigators,
Abu Bakar reportedly offered money through a Telegram channel to target Hindu
community members' houses. Police added that further investigation into both
incidents is underway.
