President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla were among the many leaders who paid tribute to Babasaheb Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on his 136th birth anniversary, honouring the chief architect of the Indian Constitution.
In a post on X, President Murmu described Ambedkar as a jurist, economist, sharp thinker and powerful advocate of an egalitarian social order. She said he devoted his life to the uplift of the underprivileged and weaker sections of society, made historic contributions to their welfare, and played a leading role in strengthening India’s democratic values and constitutional rights. She also noted that he gave special importance to women’s education and rights.
Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan paid tribute to Babasaheb at Rashtrapati Bhavan, while Speaker Om Birla offered floral tributes in the Central Hall of the Constitution House and said Ambedkar’s life would continue to guide generations.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said Ambedkar laid the strong foundation of Indian democracy by giving every section equal rights and freedom of opportunity through the Constitution. He also said Ambedkar strongly opposed Article 370 in the interest of national unity.
Other senior leaders, including
Union ministers Nitin Gadkari and Rajnath Singh, also paid homage, calling Ambedkar a visionary reformer, nation-builder and an enduring source of inspiration. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge described him as the man who gave India its moral and constitutional soul, while Rahul Gandhi said he would continue to defend Ambedkar’s ideas and the Constitution with all his strength.
Dr. Ambedkar was born on April 14, 1891. He was the principal architect of the Indian Constitution, a renowned jurist and a social reformer who fought tirelessly for the rights of marginalised communities.
