Kolkata/Raniganj, 13 April (H.S.) : Amit Shah on Monday asserted that if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) comes to power in West Bengal, funds recovered and saved by curbing corruption will be utilised for public welfare schemes. He made the remarks while responding to questions over the financial viability of the party’s proposed monthly assistance programme for women and unemployed youth.
Addressing a public rally in Raniganj in West Burdwan district, Shah said the BJP’s manifesto promises a monthly allowance of Rs 3,000 for women and jobless youth. Responding to concerns raised by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee regarding the source of funds, he stated that money recovered by tackling “rampant corruption” in the state would be channelled into such welfare initiatives.
Shah alleged that the current regime is marked by a “syndicate raj” and cited corruption in sectors such as cattle smuggling, coal and sand mining, teacher recruitment, ration distribution, and municipal appointments. He said all such cases would be investigated and strict action taken against those found guilty.
On security arrangements, Shah expressed confidence that the two-phase polling scheduled for April 23 and April 29 would be conducted under tight security, ensuring that no voter is intimidated. He warned that those involved in alleged intimidation should remain indoors on polling day or face stringent action.
The Raniganj rally was Shah’s third public meeting of the day, following earlier rallies in Bolpur and Khayrasole. He also expressed confidence that the BJP would secure all seats in West Burdwan district and form the government after the counting of votes on May 4.

“Won’t allow Babri Masjid in Bengal”
Commenting on recent political controversies, Shah dismissed allegations by the Trinamool Congress regarding former MLA Humayun Kabir, stating that Kabir should not be seen as separate from the ruling party. He reiterated that the BJP would not support any move to construct a “Babri Masjid” in West Bengal.
Shah also took a strong stance on illegal infiltration, stating that infiltrators would be identified and deported. He added that land required by border security forces would be provided within 45 days if the BJP comes to power. Additionally, he reaffirmed the party’s commitment to implementing a Uniform Civil Code in the state, as outlined in its manifesto.
