
Mumbai, 01 Apr (HS): The Maharashtra Government has
approved the establishment of the Maharashtra State River Rejuvenation
Authority (MSRRA) on Wednesday. MSRRA dedicated for restoration of river flow
affected by disposal of sewage and industrial waste and resultant pollution was
formed last year, to which a formal approval was granted on Wednesday.
The Central Pollution Control Board, in its report
published in 2025 had mentioned about pollution in 296 belts of ten main rivers
and their tributaries. Most of the polluted rivers are in Maharashtra. MSRRA
will act as a nodal agency for controlling pollution and rejuvenation of 54
belts. Various social organisations will be involved in the work. Out of the Rs
2000 crore required by the Authority, the Maharashtra Cabinet approved
contribution of Rs 100 crore on Wednesday. Fund for the river rejuvenation
mission will be raised from different sources.
