
Seat fell vacant due to his father Shivaji Kardile’s death
Mumbai, 01 Apr (HS): Bharatiya Janata Party has
announced Akshay Kardile as its candidate for the Rahuri by-poll. Akshay is son
BJP MLA Shivaji Kardile, who died and the Rahuri constituency fell vacant.
Akshay Kardile is President of the District Bank.
The Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) is
likely to field Prajakt Tanpure against Kardile. Former MP Sujay Vikhe Patil
was also interested in contesting the electcion.
Shivaji Kardile was representing Rahuri constituency
in Ahilyanagar and was elected six times from the same constituency. After a
brief illness he suffered a massive heart attack and died in October 2025, at
the age of 66. He was a popular leader in Ahilyanagar.
By-polls for eight seats across the nation,
including two in Maharashtra –Rahuri and Baramati, will be held on April 23 and
the results will be announced on May 4. The by-polls are being held with
Assembly elections in four states and one Union territory.
