Hooghly, 08 March (H.S.)
A complaint alleging financial harassment has been lodged against BJP MLA Biman Ghosh at a local police station in West Bengal’s Hooghly district, police sources said on Sunday.
The complaint was filed on Saturday by one Sushant Sarkar, who alleged that the Purshura legislator had taken Rs 3 lakh from him in early 2020 and had not returned the money despite repeated requests.
Sarkar has sought police intervention in the matter, claiming that he has been facing financial harassment over the issue.
Reacting to the allegation, Ghosh dismissed the charges as “false and fabricated”, and claimed that it was part of a conspiracy orchestrated by I-PAC, the political consultancy associated with the ruling Trinamool Congress.
“The entire matter is false. The complainant is acting in connivance with I-PAC people to malign my image,” the BJP MLA told Hindusthan Samachar, adding that he had filed a defamation case against those behind the complaint.
Sarkar, who identified himself as the brother of Swami Aseemanand, also said that he wanted the BJP to field candidates with a clean image.
The police said they have received the complaint and the matter is being looked into.
