New Delhi, 08 March (H.S.): Union Minister Annapurna Devi launched a scathing critique of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee following an incident during President Droupadi Murmu's recent visit to the state, deeming her conduct a grave affront to democratic norms and the dignity of the constitutional head.

Speaking to media after the Shakti Walk at Kartavya Path on Sunday, Devi described the treatment meted out to President Murmu as extremely unfortunate and contrary to democratic etiquette, asserting that no condemnation could suffice for such an egregious lapse. She highlighted the absence of the Chief Minister or any state minister during the President's tour as reflective of the West Bengal government's flawed mindset and mentality, suggesting Banerjee's frustration had clouded judgment.

Devi emphasized that the President, as the nation's constitutional figurehead unbound by party affiliations, requires no counsel on her movements. The events yesterday are undoubtedly shameful for the country and expose her poor thinking, she remarked, stressing that any insensitivity toward this esteemed office is wholly unacceptable and has wounded public sentiments nationwide.

She demanded an apology from the West Bengal government for this undignified behavior.
