07 March (HS): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said Saturday that
Govind Ballabh Pant's vision and reforms lay the groundwork for the state's
growth and continue to steer its progress to this day. Adityanath, speaking at
a function commemorating Pant's death anniversary, characterized him as a
wonderful son of Bharat Mata, distinguished independence warrior, noted jurist,
and skillful administrator who served as Uttar Pradesh's first chief minister
and then as Union Home Minister.
His
post on X, reads as follows: “On the death anniversary of Bharat Mata's great
son, former Home Minister and first Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, 'Bharat Ratna'
Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, we paid tribute to him by offering flowers at his
statue in Lucknow today. Following the foundation for development and the
vision he presented as Chief Minister, 'New Uttar Pradesh' has today become a
key pillar of the economy of 'New India'. The revolutionary steps he took to
rebuild the state will always be an inspiration for us. We salute his sacred
memories!”
In
yet another post, he mentioned, “Humble tributes to the great freedom fighter,
senior politician, former Home Minister and first Chief Minister of Uttar
Pradesh, 'Bharat Ratna' Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant, on his death anniversary.
Your contribution to establishing Hindi as the official language will always be
remembered. Your nationalist thinking and sacred spirit of nation first are a
guiding light for all of us.”
Pant
was born in what is now Uttarakhand, which was part of the United Provinces at
the time. According to the chief minister, he quit his law career and joined
the liberation fight after being inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's demand. Pant was
Premier of the United Provinces from 1937 to 1939, and again from 1946 to 1950.
After
independence, he became Uttar Pradesh's first chief minister in 1950, serving
until 1954. Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant's reforms and vision, enacted during his
time, continue to inspire and drive Uttar Pradesh's growth, Adityanath said. He
stated that Pant played an essential role in pushing Hindi as the national
language. Pant received the Bharat Ratna in 1957 for his contributions to the
nation, according to Adityanath. The chief minister paid tribute on behalf of
the state government and the people of Uttar Pradesh, saying that Pant's life
and principles continue to inspire future generations.
