Hooghly, 07 March (H.S.): Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Saturday said that the redevelopment of Serampore railway station will be undertaken in a manner that reflects the town’s ancient culture and historical heritage.

Vaishnaw, who was in the area to participate in the BJP’s Parivartan Yatra, visited the historic Jagannath Temple at Mahesh in Serampore and offered prayers to Lord Jagannath.

Speaking to reporters after the temple visit, the Railway Minister said it was a matter of great fortune for him to have had the opportunity to seek the blessings of Lord Jagannath at the historic shrine.

He said that while planning the redevelopment of Serampore railway station, special attention would be given to the region’s rich cultural legacy so that the station’s design reflects the town’s traditional and historical identity.

The minister’s announcement was welcomed by local residents, who expressed hope that the proposed redevelopment would not only improve railway infrastructure but also highlight Serampore’s cultural heritage.
