Kathmandu, 7 March (HS) : Months after Gen Z youth stormed the streets of Nepal, effectively toppling the government led by former prime minister K. P. Sharma Oli, the country held its general elections on Thursday, March 5.
In a major political upset, Balendra Shah of the Rastriya Swatantra Party defeated four-time prime minister Oli by a huge margin in the results announced on Saturday, March 7.
Shah is now set to form the next government, delivering a decisive blow to Nepal’s traditional political parties in the first general election held after the violent protests of 2025.
