Bhubaneswar, 05 March (H.S.): The Odisha Police will organise a “Nyaya Sanhita Exhibition” at the Exhibition Ground, Unit-III to create public awareness about India’s newly implemented criminal laws that replaced colonial-era statutes.

The exhibition will highlight the provisions and implementation of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA), which came into force on July 1, 2024, replacing the earlier colonial criminal laws.

The event will be inaugurated on March 6 by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, while Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will attend as the chief guest. Director General of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania shared details of the programme during a press conference at Police Bhawan in Bhubaneswar.

According to the DGP, the exhibition will remain open to the public from March 7 to March 10, offering citizens an opportunity to understand the modernised criminal justice framework and its practical implementation.

Khurania said the new legal framework marks a major shift from the colonial “punitive” system to a “justice-oriented” approach that prioritises victims’ rights and dignity. The new laws also emphasise time-bound investigations and trials, reinforcing the principle that justice delayed is justice denied.

The exhibition will feature an interactive educational journey titled “From Crime Scene to High Court”, with 10 stalls approved by the Ministry of Home Affairs. These stalls will guide visitors through the entire judicial process, from crime investigation to court proceedings.

Key highlights include demonstrations of modern technological tools such as National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS) for biometric identification, e-Sakshya for digital evidence management, mobile forensic units for on-site investigation and mandatory forensic examination for serious crimes.

Other stalls will showcase the functioning of emergency response services, police stations, hospital coordination, forensic laboratories, public prosecution, district courts, prisons and High Court procedures.

The exhibition will also highlight the role of specialised units such as the Special Operations Group in anti-Maoist operations and the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force in disaster response, along with initiatives related to police modernisation and prevention of crimes against women.

Reaffirming the force’s commitment to timely justice, the DGP said the initiative aims to educate citizens about the evolving justice system and strengthen public trust through transparency, scientific investigation and the use of modern technology.

The press conference was also attended by Binaytosh Mishra, Director General of Police of the Crime Branch, and Arun Bothra, Additional Director General of Police (Railways and Coastal Security).
