Kolkata, 05 March (H.S.) : A 35-year-old migrant worker from West Bengal’s Purulia district died under mysterious circumstances in Bengaluru, leaving his family in deep distress.

The deceased, identified as Anadi Mahato, was a resident of Khairi village under Kotshila police station limits. He had been working as a cook at an organisation in the Bhatra police station area of Bengaluru for the past six to seven years.

According to family sources, Mahato followed a daily routine of waking up around 4 am and calling his wife, Pritilata Mahato, before starting work. However, on Tuesday morning, when she did not receive the customary call, she tried reaching him herself. The phone was answered by another person, who informed her that Mahato had suddenly fallen ill during the night and passed away.

Pritilata said she had spoken to her husband until about 11 pm the previous night and he had not complained of any health issues.

The deceased’s brother-in-law, Chittaranjan Mahato, stated that Anadi had been admitted to a hospital, but the exact cause of death remains unclear.

As news of his death reached the village, local leaders, including district Trinamool Congress leader Shantiram Mahato and labour leader Ujjwal Kumar, visited the bereaved family on Wednesday. They informed the family that Abhishek Banerjee, national general secretary of the All India Trinamool Congress, was monitoring arrangements for bringing the body back to the village.

After the post-mortem examination, plans were made to transport the body in a coffin by air via Ranchi. However, family members initially objected after learning that only a ticket for the coffin had been booked. Later, the organisation where Mahato worked arranged flight tickets for two accompanying persons as well.

Due to delays, the body could not reach the village on Wednesday and is now expected to arrive on Thursday.

Mahato is survived by his wife, a six-year-old daughter Ruby, and a three-year-old son Bhuvan. As the sole breadwinner of the family, his sudden demise has left his wife deeply worried about the future of their children.

Local leaders have assured the family that efforts will be made to secure financial assistance from the state government.
