Kolkata, 05 March (H.S.): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday expressed surprise and deep concern over the news of Governor C.V. Ananda Bose's sudden resignation.
The Chief Minister stated on the social media platform 'X' that she was not aware of the reasons for the Governor's resignation at this time. However, she added that given the current circumstances, she would not be surprised if the Governor was pressured by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to serve certain political interests ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
Banerjee also said that the Union Home Minister informed her that R.N. Ravi was being appointed as the new Governor of West Bengal, but she was not consulted in this regard, as per established practice.
The Chief Minister said that such moves undermine the spirit of the Constitution and undermine the foundation of India's federal system. She appealed to the central government to respect the principles of cooperative federalism and refrain from unilateral decisions that undermine democratic traditions and the dignity of the states.
