Chennai, 31 March (H.S.):A fresh political controversy has surfaced in Tamil Nadu after a candidate from the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) was booked by police over allegations of sexual harassment. The case has emerged at a crucial time, just days after the party announced its candidates for the upcoming Assembly electins.

Police in Tiruvallur district have registered a case against Prakash, also known as Kutty, who is contesting from the Poonamallee constituency. He currently serves as the party’s Tiruvallur South district secretary. Authorities confirmed that multiple sections of the law have been invoked, and an investigation is currently underway.

The complaint was filed by a woman associated with the party, who accused Prakash of sexually harassing her during a wedding reception held in Tiruvallur about six months ago. According to her statement, several party leaders and functionaries were present at the event when the alleged incident took place.

The complainant further stated that she had initially raised the issue internally within the party leadership but claimed that no concrete action was taken despite assurances. The matter resurfaced on Monday when she, along with her husband, formally approached the Tiruvallur District Superintendent of Police and lodged an official complaint.

Following this, Tiruvallur town police recorded her statement and initiated preliminary inquiries. Officials said further action would depend on the findings of the ongoing probe.

The allegations have been strongly denied by Prakash’s family. His wife has filed a counter-complaint, alleging that the accusations are fabricated and politically motivated, claiming the complainant acted out of dissatisfaction over not receiving a party post.

The development comes soon after actor-turned-politician Vijay released the party’s candidate list, naming Prakash as its nominee. With elections approaching, the case is expected to attract significant political and public attention.
