New Delhi, 31 March (H.S.):

Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta stated that only one who harbors compassion for all living beings truly walks the path illuminated by Lord Mahavira's eternal principles.

Gupta made these remarks while addressing a memorial event organized by the Shree Digambar Jain Maha Sabha in Rohini on Tuesday, where he received blessings from Jain saints.

Mahavira's Teachings in Modern Context

Emphasizing the 24th Tirthankara's ancient wisdom as a guide for contemporary governance and social harmony, Gupta described Mahavir Jayanti not merely as a festival but as a divine call for self-introspection and soul-searching. He asserted that true valor lies not in the edge of a sword but in conquering the mind and triumphing over anger, greed, and ego, reinterpreting 'Ahimsa Paramo Dharma' as the pinnacle of courage rather than cowardice.

Gupta elaborated on Anekantavada (pluralism of viewpoints) as a healing balm for today's polarized society, noting that one's truth is not absolute—others' truths hold sparks of light too. On Aparigraha (non-possession), he highlighted how Mahavira presciently addressed global climate crises by advocating against exploitation of nature and hoarding.

Call to Action

Urging Delhi residents to internalize these principles beyond processions, Gupta called for ahimsa in homes, truth in business, pluralism in politics, and simplicity in lifestyle to make Mahavir Jayanti meaningful. The event concluded with his participation in religious rituals and dialogues with community leaders, reaffirming commitment to Delhi's welfare and spiritual heritage.
