Vijay files nomination

Chennai, 30 March (H.S.):

In a major political moment ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, actor-turned-politician Vijay filed his nomination from the Perambur constituency on Monday, drawing an extraordinary public response that underscored his growing political appeal.

Marking his entry into electoral politics, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief submitted his papers at the Dr Ambedkar Government Arts College in Vyasarpadi, accompanied by senior party leaders and amid tight security arrangements.

Senior leaders including general secretary N Anand and joint general secretary CTR Nirmal Kumar were present during the filing, reflecting the party’s unified push as it prepares for its electoral debut.

The nomination exercise quickly transformed into a massive public gathering, with thousands of supporters, party cadres, and fans lining the streets leading to the venue hours in advance. The turnout highlighted the enthusiasm surrounding Vijay’s political plunge and the traction TVK has gained in a short span.

As Vijay’s campaign convoy moved through Vyasarpadi, large crowds surged forward to catch a glimpse of the actor-politician, creating a festive yet tightly managed atmosphere. Police had deployed significant personnel across key junctions to maintain order and regulate traffic.

Traffic movement was briefly disrupted near a signal junction when motorists halted their vehicles to take selfies as the convoy slowed down. Though the situation was swiftly brought under control, it led to temporary congestion in the locality.

Party insiders described the day as a “show of strength,” pointing to the strong grassroots connect the party appears to be building. With Perambur emerging as a key battleground in Chennai, Vijay’s candidature is expected to reshape the dynamics of the contest.

The TVK is fielding candidates across the State, positioning itself as a fresh alternative to the entrenched Dravidian parties. As the election campaign gathers pace, all eyes will be on how Vijay converts his mass appeal into electoral success.
